Dry needling and acupuncture are two distinct clinical approaches that use fine needles. Dry needling assessment commonly focuses on the musculoskeletal system, tender points and movement function, whereas acupuncture has its own theoretical framework and practice principles. Scope of practice, training and regulation may differ by country.
Before a needle-based procedure, medical history, bleeding risk, medication use, pregnancy, signs of infection and the source of symptoms should be assessed. Sterile single-use needles and appropriate clinical conditions are essential safety requirements.
For low back, neck or muscle-related concerns, the same procedure may not be suitable for everyone. In Dr. Metin Mutlu’s assessment process, the priority is to understand the cause of the concern, accompanying findings and rehabilitation needs before selecting a needle technique. Exercise, movement education or another treatment option may be added when appropriate.
All needle-based procedures are planned under physician supervision and according to individual clinical assessment. Expected benefit, possible side effects and alternatives are discussed clearly beforehand; no definite outcome is promised.
