PRP is a form of treatment performed by injecting a substance obtained from the person's own blood, consisting of the initials of the words 'Platelet Rich Plasma' in English. The injected substance is platelet-enriched plasma. Plasma is a component of blood that contains special cells called platelets or other factors and proteins that help blood clot. Plasma also contains various proteins that support cell growth. By isolating and concentrating plasma from blood, researchers have obtained a blood component called PRP, which is a plasma richer in platelet cells.
Injecting PRP into damaged tissues encourages the growth of new, healthy cells in the body. PRP is also thought to support healing in damaged tissue. Since tissue growth factors are more concentrated in the prepared concentrated injection material, healing in body tissues is accelerated.
What are the areas of use of PRP?
PRP injections are used to treat a number of conditions and ailments. Among the areas where PRP is most frequently preferred are the following:
Hair loss:PRP injections can be made into the scalp to stimulate hair growth and prevent hair loss. According to research, PRP injections have been shown to be effective in the treatment of androgenic alopecia, also known as male pattern baldness. Satisfactory results can be achieved especially in cases of genetic hair loss seen in men. PRP can also be applied in combination with hair mesotherapy.
Tendon injuries:The hard, thick tissue bands that connect muscles to bones are called tendons. Tendons are generally slow to heal after injury. PRP injections may be used to treat chronic tendon problems such as tennis elbow, Achilles tendinitis in the ankle, or pain or inflammation in the patellar tendon in the knee.
Post-surgical repair: PRP injections are sometimes used after surgery to repair a torn tendon or ligament, such as the rotator cuff tendon in the shoulder.
Osteoarthritis. (calcification):PRP is injected into the joints of patients with osteoarthritis, such as knees and hips. According to a small number of studies, PRP injections have been found to be more effective than hyaluronic acid injections in the treatment of osteoarthritis.
Skin Rejuvenation:PRP injections can be used for signs of aging that appear on the skin due to age and environmental factors. With the application, positive effects such as increased skin elasticity and reduction in wrinkles can be observed. PRP can also be preferred to get rid of scars on the skin.
Since PRP is a very new treatment method, its effectiveness has not yet been fully clarified.
